#NationalSTEMDay and below are some very key elements that, when put together, make up the important conservation science work we do every day at your Toronto Zoo 🔬
🔬 Science: Our Zoo is made up of five core science teams: Reproductive, Veterinary, Nutrition, Welfare and Field Conservation. In particular, your Zoo's Indigenous Relations unit supports a number of these teams' research and field work programs through building strong, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities. Together, these six teams support the 3,000 animals in our care as well as work with external partners to support wildlife populations.
💻 Technology: Revolutionizing technology is part of your Toronto Zoo’s Guardians of Wild Strategic Plan 2025-2027. Using novel technology, we have been able to support animal welfare and well-being. For example, the use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance the lives of the Sumatran orangutan species.
