Happy MLK Day! I wanted to take a moment to highlight my good friend lakayana and his nonprofit wordisbondpdx for the work they are doing for the black youth here in Portland. Last summer, they sponsored 8 young men to travel to Ghana for a 2 week leadership expedition to reconnect with their ancestral roots for the first time. Their journey was captured and turned into a documentary titled “The Black Stars” directed by twixx.williams , that premiered last week at the Hollywood Theatre here in Portland. I was honored to attend the premiere and to witness the journey of these young men on the big screen. A big shoutout to everyone involved in the project for working to make a difference for the youth here in Portland and driving meaningful change ✊🏾!
