November 6th is National Basketball Day! This day is celebrated on the birthday of James Naismith, who was born on this day in 1861, and he was the inventor of basketball. With the NBA season underway, we here at the Sacramento History Museum are, of course, rooting for the home team! For today, Jared letterpress printed something for the Sacramento Kings. The print from the electrotype of a basketball was made prior to the late 1930s when basketballs stopped having laces. The text below states, “Go Sacramento Kings!” The font used is 30 point Caslon. This was printed with red oil base ink using our Washington hand press, made in 1852. #NationalBasketballDay #nba #basketball #typography #nbaseason #sacramentokings #print #museum #history #sacramento #printingpress #letterpress #printing #printmaking #oldsacramento #sachistorymuseum
