One year ago today, I went in to have a pretty low risk knee surgery. The person administering the nerve block made a mistake that sent me into a seizure and then cardiac arrest. Marissa unfortunately saw all of it. They didn’t think I would wake up and they asked Riss to call in my parents from Georgia. When they stabilized me enough to rush me into the ER, I apparently woke up (I don’t remember this part) and clung to Marissa’s shirt. She had to peel my fingers off so they could take me and try to save my life. When I recovered a week or so later, Marissa and I chose not to pursue a lawsuit because we didn’t want to waste our energy on anything other gratitude. Life is short. We can spend so much of it angry for what could have or should have been, or we can focus on all we’ve been given. This song reminds me to do the latter ❤️
