Sydney Sweeney has spoken out after her lesbian boxer biopic ‘Christy’ bombed at the box office. Despite opening in over 2,000 theatres, the biopic earned only $1.3 million in its debut weekend.
In the movie, Sweeney plays real-life lesbian boxer Christy Martin, a trailblazer in women’s boxing. The actress took to social media on Monday (November 11) to share a heartfelt tribute to the project, writing: “I am so deeply proud of this movie. Proud of the film David made. Proud of the story we told. Proud to represent someone as strong and resilient as Christy Martin. This experience has been one of the greatest honours of my life.
"So yes, I’m proud. Why? Because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life. Thank you, Christy. I love you.”
