A new HIV protection jab has been approved for roll out across Northern Ireland. The CAB-LA injection will be provided every two months and is being issued as an alternative option to HIV prevention pills, also known as PrEP, which is used daily. Following this news, the jab will be available for eligible patients across the whole of the UK - last month it was confirmed for roll out across England and Wales, joining Scotland. The Department of Health says it’s “formally endorsing the NICE guidance so that all eligible patients in Northern Ireland may receive this treatment”, according to the BBC. It isn’t clear when the injections will become available for use.
