On Oct. 10 near Nehalem Bay State Park, Colleen Dunn spotted what she thought was driftwood on the sand. Then it moved. The 3-foot salmon shark was gasping for air as the tide went out. Unsure what to do, Dunn grabbed it by the tail and carried it to the surf, hoping to save its life.
Experts say most stranded salmon sharks don’t survive, but Dunn says she still hopes this one did.
