From Freeman Field to the skies of World War II, Indiana’s Tuskegee Airmen left a lasting legacy. Yesterday, their stories came alive at Indianapolis International Airport with the opening of “Tuskegee Airmen: America’s Freedom Flyers” exhibition. Explore artifacts and learn about Hoosiers like Major Charles B. Hall, the first Black pilot to shoot down an enemy aircraft; Dr. Lewis Jackson, director of flight training; and 2nd Lt. Charles H. DeBow Jr., one of the first five Tuskegee combat graduates. On this Veteran’s Day, we honor their legacy and service.
