This segment from The Secrets of the Back to the Future Trilogy (1990) focuses on the heart and soul of the entire series, the DeLorean Time Machine. Produced by Universal Studios and Amblin Entertainment, this featurette dives into the making of one of cinema’s most recognizable vehicles and the extraordinary craftsmanship that brought it to life. Filmed on Universal’s Courthouse Square backlot, this behind-the-scenes look showcases the DeLorean in action as Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel through time. Designed by Andrew Probert and Ron Cobb, and built under the supervision of Kevin Pike and the team at Filmtrix, the car began as a stock 1981 DMC-12 before being heavily modified with custom-built time circuits, a rear-mounted “flux capacitor” housing, and intricate prop detailing by Universal’s effects department.
