From the Cow Missing archives: This video showcases the original Starway escalator safety audio that played at Universal Studios Hollywood from 1997 to 2006. The soundtrack was part of the park’s signature “K-USH” radio-style program, which entertained guests with movie trivia, Universal sound bites, and safety messages as they traveled between the Upper Lot (“Entertainment Center”) and the Lower Lot (“Studio Center”).
Throughout its run, the program evolved with updates to park attractions and seasonal overlays, including mentions of E.T. Adventure and special Halloween Horror Nights variations.
The audio was produced in two-channel mono and played through a 70-volt system of more than 60 JBL Control 25 speakers, powered by a Roland AR-2000 digital announcement recorder. Each playback loop consisted of several segments lasting four to six minutes, forming a complete 25-minute broadcast.
