A heavy police presence was reported today in the parking lot of a busy Chicago shopping area, where police say shots were fired after two people attempted to steal merchandise.
Two suspects entered a Jewel-Osco on 34th St. at 10:52 a.m. and took merchandise that was displayed, according to police. As the suspects attempted to leave, a 46-year-old man attempted to intervene. The suspects then fired shots in the man's direction, police said.
Police say the man was struck by gunfire, and two additional people were struck nearby.
