A group of fishers from Indonesia are taking the U.S. tuna brand, Bumble Bee, to court. And yesterday they received news that their case will move forward! The four fishers allege years of forced labour while catching tuna sold in the U.S. They want to see an end to exploitation at sea and proper protection for fishers in the distant water industry. The issues of forced labour and destructive fishing are inextricably linked on the high seas. To reach any real solutions, we need to confront both environmental and human rights issues within the global fishing industry. This includes Big Seafood, the major players who profit from this exploitation.
