Did you know sleep extension can improve athletic performance? 🏀💤 In my study with the stanfordmbb team, athletes aimed to extend their sleep to 10 hours per night for 5-7 weeks to pay back accumulated sleep debt. The results were astounding—athletes demonstrated 12% faster reaction time, 9% increase in free-throw percentage, 9% increase in 3-point shooting percentage, lower fatigue and improved mood! This study highlights the performance enhancing power of sleep. Our bodies and brains thrive with a foundation of quality sleep, so invest in paying back your sleep debt that can weigh you down from truly being at your best. 🏆 Keep in mind, paying back accumulated sleep debt takes more than one night or weekend of recovery sleep to see the greatest benefits.
