Last week was the start of winter quarter’s famous Stanford undergraduate course “Dement’s Sleep and Dreams” where we built a pop-up sleep lab. A student volunteered to try to fall asleep during class while we monitored his brain waves to change from alpha rhythm (awake eyes closed) to N1 (first stage of sleep) and then transition to N2 (second stage of sleep).
