Oklahoma has spent years reshaping public schools to integrate lessons about Jesus and encourage pride in America’s history, with political leaders and legislators working their way through the conservative agenda for overhauling education. Amid Oklahoma schools’ rightward shift, the state has consistently ranked near the bottom on national measures of student performance. The high school dropout rate is one of the highest in the U.S., while spending on education is one of the lowest.
