Wendy’s is planning to close an estimated 300 of its U.S. restaurants in the coming months as revenue and profits decline. The move was announced by Interim CEO Ken Cook during an investors call. “We do see more pressure on the lower-income consumer,” Cook said last week, adding that he doesn’t expect the financial strain to ease any time soon.
Wendy’s isn’t the only fast food chain to see customers pull back during a period of inflation and rising food costs. Several other chains have had to shutter locations in recent months and many have introduced bargain meals to try and convince customers to come back.
