What started as a catch-all basement—with a low ceiling and no real flow—is now a fully realized extension of this family’s home. We redesigned the layout for better functionality, kept the walls neutral to ground the space, and introduced oversized art and a textured wallpaper to the ceiling to add depth, character and a little unexpected drama. The result in our
#DCDwelling project basement is a cozy, multifunctional retreat made for movie nights, effortless hosting, and everyday family living—complete with a bar and rosé on tap(!) that’s already a neighborhood favorite. A reminder: basements don’t have to be boring. With thoughtful planning and elevated design details, even the most challenging lower levels can become spaces you truly love to live in.
