It’s
#worlddiabetesday and for many years I’d have avoided mentioning a thing about it. It’s taken a lot of years to accept that there’s a huge lack of knowledge about what type 1 diabetes is. It’s hard dealing with sensationalism in the media that we’re all just overweight and drink 30 red bulls a day. This little thing on my arm monitors my sugar levels that I have to manage due to my pancreas not creating a thing called insulin which breaks down sugar that usually occurs naturally.
I’ve been asked many times what it is. Shout out Eddie who even thought it was a coil 😂😂. It’s why you’ll see my put my phone up to my arm, it’s essential for me to manage the condition.
I used to be fearful of the questions, but actually those questions help me explain what it’s for, and hopefully that goes a little way to there being more understanding for others that wear the same thing.
