Coming soon to the Museum! A recently acquired A Century of Education (Century Vase) by Roberto Lugo. This powerful work reimagines American history through a lens often overlooked. Inspired by a vase exhibited at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia—which celebrated white leaders and westward expansion—Lugo’s vase centers the transformative power of education for people of color, drawing from his own family’s journey in pursuit of learning. We celebrated a special event with artist Roberto Lugo at Government House in Annapolis! Maryland’s First Lady Dawn Moore welcomed Lugo and his Four Centuries Vase as part of a reinstallation of diverse artworks in the Governor’s Mansion.
