It's almost as if female fans don't need to be spoon-fed and babied sports news – we're true fans and we've BEEN dedicated for a long time. 🤫
Sky Sports launched its new “female-focused” TikTok channel, Halo, on Thursday… and shut it down two days later after fans called it patronizing, infantilizing, and “one of the worst concepts” they’d ever seen. 😶
Halo — branded as the “little sister” to Sky Sports — leaned into “hot girl walks” and matcha to explain actual sports highlights. Women’s sports fans were quick to push back.
“We’ve spent the last 50 years trying to come away from stereotypes,” said 23-year-old fan Emily Trees. “We deserve our own space… we don’t need to be the ‘little sister’ to anyone.”
Another fan, Millie Jones, added: “I don’t need a pink, glittery sidepiece to the normal content. I just need equal representation.”
After widespread criticism, Sky deleted nearly all posts and issued a statement: “We’ve listened. We didn’t get it right.”
