If Trent Grisham accepting the qualifying offer stops the Yankees from bringing in Kyle Tucker, then this is less of a Trent Grisham problem and more of a Hal Steinbrenner issue. If anything I’m happy for Grisham. He deserves a decent payday after the year he had. Now we’ll see if the Yankees will actually spend around him.
Grisham probably doesn’t put up the same numbers from last year, but I do think his bat will actually be good.
Grisham had a 91.1 MPH average exit velocity and 14.2% barrel rate. He had a 46.4% hard-hit rate, a 30.2% squared-up rate, and a 14.1% walk rate, which is one of the best in baseball. (The funny thing about Grisham is that while his bat came to life, his defense took a hit. He had a -2 OAA in center field.)
In contrast to Grisham, Bellinger had an 88.3% average exit velocity, 7.5% barrel rate, 37.9% hard hit rate, and he squared up 28.1% of the pitches he came in contact with.
