If you didn’t hear, a major beach nourishment project just kicked off on the West End of Galveston Island, adding nearly 2 miles of new sand to the shoreline! The cityofgalvestontx, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the glotx are placing about 717,000 cubic yards of sand between Sunbather Ln and 11 Mile Rd. This will extend the beach about 300 feet into the Gulf, to help protect our environment & infrastructure. 🌊 The sand used here comes from the Galveston/Houston Ship Channel and is fully tested before placement.
