Nicole Mann is a U.S. Marine Corps test pilot and NASA astronaut who served as commander of SpaceX’s Crew-5 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in October 2022. She is also the first Native American woman to perform a spacewalk. While living on the ISS, she conduct scientific experiments and tested new technologies. Mann, a member of the Wailacki of the Round Valley Indian Tribes in Northern California, is the first Native American woman in space. She brought a dream catcher, a childhood gift from her mother, as a reminder of her family and community.
