Did you know 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the photo booth? 🎞️
The world’s first fully-automatic photographic machine debuted in New York City in 1925. Anatol Josepho’s “Photomaton” was so popular that people lined up for hours to try it out. At the time, photo strips cost 25¢ and took eight minutes to process and print.
Among the artists who have used photo booths as a medium in the 100 years since is tomokosawada_artist, who uses self-portraiture to explore concepts of stereotype, self-image, and cultural and gender identity.
