Last Friday, we visited Imam Seth Ibrahim at his South Side Chicago home, where he was surrounded by the love and care of his family as he battles cancer.
Imam Ibrahim was one of Chicago’s earliest Muslim educators and leaders. Since the 1970s, he has helped shape generations of Muslim youth and community life.
He walked alongside pioneers like Ahmed Sakr, Mary Ali, Dr. Bombade, and many others we’ve since lost. Through his leadership at the Mosque of Umar, and his involvement with the Muslim Civic Coalition, IMAN, MCC, and beyond, he has been a steady presence of wisdom, humility, and heart.
When we asked what he remembers most, he smiled and said, “I loved seeing you all playing in the mosque as children.”
That one sentence speaks volumes about his gentle spirit and how deeply he cares for his community.
