Green keel-bellied lizards gape and stick out their tongues when they feel threatened. If they are threatened enough, they’ll stand up on their hind legs while doing it. This is to make themselves look bigger and more dangerous. Merlin doesn’t tend to do it often since he generally is either fine with me being in his space or he just runs somewhere else (like that time he went in my wall 🙃).
