LIONS TAME BULLDOGS: The jserra.girlsbasketball eam improved to 3-0 with another convincing triumph on Friday, as the Lions defeated the Portola Bulldogs 74-46 at the Villa Park/Portola Kickoff Classic at Portola High School in Irvine. JSerra opened the game on a 9-0 run over the first 2:20 of the opening quarter and led 26-11 at the conclusion of the period behind 10 points from junior Vivian Grenald and nine points from junior Kayla Rice. Rice’s ninth point of the opening quarter on a free throw with 31.5 seconds left was a scoring milestone, as she hit the 1,000 point-mark in her prep career. Rice added seven points in the second quarter, helping JSerra to a 40-25 lead at halftime. Junior Rosie Santos helped the Lions put the game out of reach in the third quarter, scoring eight points to key a 23-5 scoring surge that gave JSerra a 63-30 lead heading into the fourth.
