LIONS TAKE DOWN TORRANCE: The jserra.girlsbasketball team won its’ second straight game in convincing fashion on Wednesday, as the Lions ran past the Torrance Tartars 64-23 at the Villa Park/Portola Kickoff Classic at Portola High School in Irvine.
Junior Vivian Grenald spearheaded a dominant start for the Lions, as she produced 11 first quarter points.
The Lions defense held Torrance scoreless for more than five minutes of the opening period, helping JSerra to a 21-4 lead at quarter’s end.
Grenald continued to spark the offense in the second quarter, adding nine points.
Junior Kayla Rice’s steal and lay-up with under 10 seconds left in the half gave the Lions a commanding 42-10 lead at halftime.
The Lions closed out the win in the second half, holding the Tartars to 13 points over the final two quarters.
Grenald finished with a team-high 24 points (on 8-for-11 shooting), seven rebounds, and four steals.
Rice added 13 points and eight rebounds.
