I believe that those who frame formality in a one dimensional scale are oversimplifying something deeper. To reduce a tuxedo to something like a business suit, but more formal, is to miss the point as badly as Dale and Brennan. Eveningwear is not like business formal. It is not stuffy or reserved. It is beautiful and bold. It says "I am here to party." This is why some men choose to wear it to holiday celebrations, and especially on New Year's Eve.
