Last month, our team received one of those calls that we never want. One of our recently adopted pups, Simon, was at the emergency vet and had just been diagnosed with a life-threatening bowel obstruction. He needed emergency surgery to survive 💔 His family had already spent $2,000 on diagnostics and supportive care. The estimated $5,000 surgery was simply out of reach. They absolutely adore Simon, but like many of us, they couldn’t afford to spend $7,000 in a single week. As a last hope, they reached out to us. At that moment, we were faced with an impossible decision: ask the family to surrender their beloved dog so we could take him to the emergency vet, tell them we were sorry but could not help due to lack of funds, or find a way to say yes and keep this family together.
