A few weeks ago, we were asked to help five cats found zipped inside a suitcase on a Minneapolis sidewalk. It’s the kind of story that stops you in your tracks. It’s easy to react with anger, disgust, and disbelief. How could someone do that?! It’s so easy to jump to the worst conclusion and not think deeper. But when our team looked closer, we saw something different. The cats were healthy and well-fed. Their fur was glossy. Food bowls were tucked inside the suitcase. And they were left in a busy area where someone would find them quickly. This wasn’t cruelty or neglect… it was pure desperation. Whoever left them wanted them to be found. They wanted them to be safe. They loved them deeply, but they didn’t see another option.
