TSR Staff: Jada R.! iamjadanicolle ______________________________ On Thursday, rapper #PrasMichel of the Fugees was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of illegally processing millions of dollars in foreign contributions to former President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012. ______________________________ In April 2023, a federal jury found Michel guilty on 10 counts, including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. Prosecutors from the Justice Department stated that federal sentencing guidelines recommended a life sentence for Michel, alleging that he “betrayed his country for money” and “lied unapologetically and unrelentingly to carry out his schemes.” ______________________________ Michel’s attorney, #PeterZeidenberg, argued that the 14-year sentence is “completely disproportionate to the offense.” Zeidenberg also mentioned that Michel plans to appeal both his conviction and sentence.
