BMW Art Car Artist Spotlight: Artist Roy Lichtenstein 💭 In 1977, pop artist Roy Lichtenstein designed BMW Art Car #3 using the BMW 320i Turbo as his canvas. Lichtenstein sought inspiration directly from the car's environment to create the artwork for the BMW 320i. Utilizing his well-known "Benday Dots" and comic-book style “speedlines,” Lichtenstein depicted a passing landscape, complete with rolling hills and a bright, expansive sun. After its completion, BMW Art Car 3 celebrated not one, but two premieres: as a work of art at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and as a racing car in the Le Mans 24-Hour Race in June 1977. Driven by Frenchmen Hervé Poulain and Marcel Mignot, the car finished 9th overall and first in its class. roylichtenstein BMW #RoyLichtenstein #BMW320i #BMWArtCar #BMWGroupCulture 📸: BMW Art Car by Roy Lichtenstein, BMW 320i Turbo, 1977
