Jafar Panahi has won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in the last 25 years, and just won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival for “It Was Just an Accident.” At 65, Panahi is the fourth director in history to achieve this triple crown, but the Iranian director’s biggest hope is that the awards and attention allow him to make more films. During his decade-plus long ban on filmmaking, Panahi made and released five features and directed part of an anthology.
