Cal football has fired head coach Justin Wilcox following Saturday night’s loss to Stanford, according to sources from Cal Athletics.
Senior offensive assistant Nick Rolovich will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel and later confirmed in a Cal Athletics press release.
Wilcox has coached the Bears for the past nine seasons. In that timespan, he accumulated a 48-55 career record, finishing as the sixth-most winningest coach in program history. The last time he finished a season with a winning record was in 2019. Cal went 5-21 against ranked opponents during his tenure, with No. 14 Louisville being his first ranked win since 2020. Wilcox never delivered a winning conference record.
