Self-esteem is the whole game. Black Africans & Caribbeans often have high self-esteem but low confidence. Black Americans? Often the reverse—high confidence, but low self-esteem. Why? 400 years of slavery broke the spirit, not just the body. We never healed. If I don’t love me, I can’t love you. If I don’t respect me, I won’t respect you. If I don’t know my purpose, I’ll make your life hell. We’ve got to heal to deal. Because once we fix what’s inside, nobody can stop us.
