Rep. Ryan Zinke calls the proposal to sell off public land his San Juan Hill, a nod to President Teddy Roosevelt, noted conservationist. The rough translation: over my dead body. “If you have a hotel, and the hotel is being mismanaged, you don't sell the hotel. You get new management,” he says. “If you sell the public land, you sell it all, right? Have you changed why you're in debt? No, you've just sold your assets,” said Rep. Zinke. Zinke was instrumental in getting the land-sale proposal killed in the House, though many expect it will resurface in Congress. Advocates for selling off the federal land say unlocking some of this land could enable the building of affordable housing. In a statement to 60 Minutes, Sen. Lee, who championed the sell-off, said in part, “the federal government controls more land than it can manage, hurting the growth and prosperity of American families and their communities.” #publicland #montana #ryanzinke #congress #federalland
