#JSUGrad25: "I am a first-generation college student. My mom didn’t make it to college and it is very surreal to me when she tells me that I am breaking generational curses. My family doesn’t just support me, they push me to go even further. When I was a child, I was very vocal about my feelings. I’ve always felt like everyone needs an outlet to express themselves, which inspired me to go into psychology. Going into this field made me aware that the stigma around mental health in my community needs to be broken down and I want to be a part of the solution. Studying psychology and social work at JSU showed me why people are how they are and why they think the way they do. This degree is for everyone who helped me get here. The advisors, the professors, and most importantly, my family… I have so many people in my life who encourage and elevate me.
