Did anyone else get this advice when they came to New Zealand? đź‘€
It was the most common thing I heard when coming for the first time, so we flew into Wellington and got the boat straight across to the South Island where we stayed for the next week.
Now, after two trips to the north island and three to the South Island, do I think that’s true? Definitely not!
I have loved the north island, the hikes, the lakes, scenic drives, geothermal spots, hikes, waterfalls and also the more tropical climate! It’s been less busy, and cheaper than the south (activity prices tend to be lower up north).
If you are coming to New Zealand and trying to decide your route, here’s my advice if you’re here for only 10 days to 2 weeks:
Start with a week in the north of the north island, then fly from Auckland to Christchurch and do a week around the south of the South Island. That’s the route I’m doing on my tour, and it takes in so many incredible sights & drives in just two weeks.
