A robber who kicked and punched a pensioner before taking off with a box of cornflakes and a cottage pie has been jailed for life for his murder. 87-year-old John Mackey was targeted by Peter Augustine after he visited a Co-op store in north London, on May 6th. 59-year-old Augustine was convicted by jurors of murder and robbery following a trial earlier this month - and has been today sentenced to serve a minimum term of 23 years in prison. Mr Mackey, who was bleeding from his head after the attack, regained consciousness but was unable to tell officers what had happened.
