Before GPS, there were Blue Books. In Storyville, visitors navigated the district with special guidebooks that listed names, addresses, and ads for brothels, liquor, cigars, and more. Issued annually—often around Carnival—these publications became infamous souvenirs of New Orleans’ vice economy. The guides reflected the city’s attempt to commercialize and regulate its red-light district. ✨ This year’s Improvisations Gala explores Storyville’s layered history and the jazz it birthed. 🎟 Early bird tickets: ImprovGala2025.eventbrite.com 🔗 Learn more: nolajazzmuseum.org/gala #ImprovisationsGala #StoryvilleHistory #NOLAJazzMuseum #JazzStartsHere
