There is an oil and gas crisis unfolding in New Mexico. Fracking has accelerated at a breakneck pace and a tsunami of air pollution and toxic spills has inundated the state. A new documentary, The Land of Sacrifice: The Burden of New Mexico's Oil and Gas Extraction, explores how this crisis has damaged the health of frontline and Indigenous communities and degraded New Mexico's land, air, water and sacred ancestral landscapes. Featuring the NMLAWS coalition and its groundbreaking lawsuit, Atencio v. State, the film also highlights a powerful legal approach and features interviews with Plaintiffs and community leaders Daniel Tso and the Rev. David Rogers, as well as Gail Evans, our New Mexico Climate Director and lead counsel in Atencio.
