High school student Sean Lee says professors and stakeholders told his classmates their project might “not be so feasible” because they're trying to tackle such a big thing. But that didn’t stop them. Their idea was for a better and earlier detection of Lyme disease, something that has eluded adult scientists for decades. Using the gene-editing tool CRISPR, they were able to target specific DNA strands, snip away the obstructing DNA, and expose the protein, enabling them to detect it with a simple, kit-style test, like a COVID or pregnancy strip. #iGEM #syntheticbiology #highschool #lymedisease #lyme
