There’s a part of Flam that reminds me of a phrase from danielbattersby: Some places don’t just quiet the world, they quiet you. That part of Flam that allowed me to enjoy much-needed quiet is to the left of where cruise ships drop you off via their tenders. Follow the water around to where an asphalt path becomes a wooden boardwalk. There might be a white ship docked there with black birds on the hull. You’ll see fern and moss-covered rocks, spot a red lifeguard hut, and floating sauna huts. I couldn’t stop watching people emerge from the sauna, climb to the roof, and jump in the frigid water of the fjord. I know when I’m underwater it always feels as if time & noise suspends. And I’m caught in a beautiful in between. I couldn’t help but think of that. And also admire the courage of those who can jump into such cold depths.
