Today, we celebrate #RosaParksDay. Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (1913-2005) was born on February 4th, 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama. Growing up in the segregated South, Parks was frequently confronted with racial discrimination and violence. She became active in the Civil Rights Movement at a young age. When Parks boarded the bus in 1955 that initiated the Montgomery bus boycott, she was an established organizer and leader in her community. At age 19, Parks married her husband Raymond Parks. Together, the couple worked with many social justice organizations to end racial injustice. Eventually, Rosa Parks was elected secretary of the Montgomery chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
