On this day in 2005, Auburn University and Under Armour announced a new 5-year partnership worth $10.6 million.⠀
⠀
Under Armour had become a publicly traded organization just a month prior to the announcement. The contract was said to be "five times more lucrative in financial scope than any previous apparel agreement." Auburn would wear Russell Athletic uniforms through the end of the 2005-06 athletic season before switching to the new Under Armour-produced uniforms.⠀
⠀
Russell Athletic was based out of Alexander City, a short 45-minute drive north of Auburn. After a century of being the local uniform provider, Russell ended up leaving the state around the same time as the Under Armour deal. Russell was acquired by Fruit of the Loom in 2006 and the company moved their headquarters to Bowling Green, Kentucky.⠀
Auburn is now five months into a ten-year partnership with Nike after the 18-year relationship with Under Armour ended in June.
