Slavery is not just a relic of the past. Around the world, as many as 50 million people are trapped today in different forms of modern slavery, such as forced labour, sexual exploitation or domestic servitude. It occurs in almost every country in the world, with women and children disproportionately affected. “Contemporary forms of slavery are perpetuated by crime rings that prey on people struggling to cope with extreme poverty, discrimination or environmental degradation,” said #UnitedNations Secretary-General antonioguterres on Tuesday's Abolition of Slavery Day. “It robs people of their rights, and their humanity,” he added. “A world built on freedom, dignity and justice for all is not only possible — it is our shared responsibility." #GlobalGoals #FightRacism #StandUp4HumanRights
