His movies DEN MUSO, BAARA and YEELEN weren’t just films they were acts of liberation that captured the rhythms of everyday life with profound beauty, deep intellect and unwavering social critique. Cissé was a cinematic architect, a storyteller of resistance and guardian of African identity. He was a guardian of cultural memory and griot of the moving image.
