Ope, didn’t mean to interrupt anything! Antarctica has a lot more than just leopard seals. These are Weddell seals, which are one of the most common seal species on the continent and often described as giant blubbery puppy dogs. Interestingly, these ice-lovers will always opt to laze about on a slab of ice over warmer rocks. Despite their love of lounging, they’re actually one of the best divers in the seal kingdom. By slowing their heart rate, they can hold five times more oxygen in their blood than humans, allowing them to dive more than 1,500 feet in search of krill, fish, and squid.
