"The ability to serve is really important to me. That’s something I was involved in all through high school. In addition to academics, I knew I could get those community development opportunities here at State. Reaching out to different service organizations, I realized that students weren’t only focused on helping their school, but also outside Raleigh communities.

I had the opportunity to volunteer with Wake Ed at an elementary school, working with kids and helping them read as well as reach benchmarks. I realized in the end I want to help people and reduce obstacles on the way to help them reach their best potential. Right now I’m just thinking about that and maybe going into medicine, but also rural North Carolina, which has an underserved population in general.

In 5 years I’m guessing I will be finishing up and then probably going to med school, but doing family medicine or internal medicine with a focus in rural North Carolina and if possible branch out to global health.
